At Motorcycle Live 2025, Blacksheep Power joined the Expert Lab – a stage designed for real engineering conversations, live technical insights, and the innovators redefining the future of motorcycling.
Our founder and CEO, Mark Gilligan, sat down with presenter Grace Webb to unpack the process behind building the Blacksheep ONE from scratch. No bike on stage, no props – just an honest, engineer-to-engineer discussion about what it takes to carve a high-performance electric motorcycle out of solid billet.
A Conversation About Real Engineering
Mark walked the audience through the fundamentals that shaped the Blacksheep ONE: no plastic, no decorative shells, no shortcuts.
Every part of the bike exists because it must exist – nothing more, nothing less.
The result is a machine built from solid billet, where the mechanics are visible, the thinking is visible, and the engineering is allowed to breathe.
This is the core of our philosophy: performance comes from honesty, not disguise.

BilletFluxtm,BilletFlowtm, BilletPowertm – The Architecture Behind the Blacksheep ONE
During the session, Mark broke down the three key systems developed from first principles at Blacksheep Power:
- BilletFlux™ motor – billet-copper stator coils CNC-machined as solid parts to maximise copper density, reduce resistance, and achieve precise, repeatable electromagnetic performance
- BilletFlow™ cooling system – a fully integrated thermal architecture with a core cooling layer, centrifugal impeller, and cooling-plate stack to remove heat directly from the stator
- BilletPower™ drivetrain – an overall powertrain system enabling coolant and power pathways to run through billet components without external wires or tubes
Even without the physical bike on stage, the discussion gave visitors a rare look into how these systems work together – and why we chose to engineer them this way.

Why We Chose to Build This Way
The Expert Lab format allowed Mark to explain not just what we built, but why we rejected conventional shortcuts:
- carving components from billet for accuracy and longevity
- exposing the mechanics instead of covering them
- designing performance around engineering honesty rather than styling trends
It sparked conversations around manufacturing difficulty, system integration, and the possibilities of electric motorcycling when nothing is hidden.

Thank You to Everyone Who Joined the Session
We’re grateful to all who attended, asked questions, and engaged with the story behind the Blacksheep ONE. The curiosity and technical depth from the audience reinforced exactly why we brought this philosophy to Motorcycle Live.
The full Expert Lab talk video will be released soon.
